Synonyms: Sphacophyllum flexuosum Hutch.
Sphacophyllum kirkii Oliv.
Common names:
Status: Native
Robust perennial up to 2 m. Stems roughly brown-pubescent. Leaves petiolate; petiole c. 2 cm, densely pubescent. Leaves pinnate; terminal leaflet large, hastate, with small lobes near the base; margins coarsely crenate-serrate; lateral leaflets 6-8 very small, less than 1cm, ovate to obovate. Inflorescence terminal branched. Capitula few to many, c. 2-3 cm in diameter; ray and disk florets bright yellow.
Derivation of specific name: kirkii: named after Dr John Kirk, who accompanied David Livingstone on his Zambezi expedition of 1858
Habitat: In submontane grassland, along the edges of forest and in high-rainfall Brachystegia woodland, usually among rocks.
