Description: |
Erect, sparsely branched annual herb, up to 1.3 m tall Most parts covered in rough hairs. Leaves opposite, ± sessile; narrowly lanceolate, up to 20 × 5 cm, roughly hairy on both surfaces with longer hairs on the veins below; margin shallowly scalloped to almost entire. Capitula c. 2 cm in diameter, in the upper leaf axils. Ray florets dark purple to purple-brown, rarely pink. See white-flowered var. alba for comparison. |
