Description:
Twigs terete or elliptic in section, glabrous or scurfy on youngest parts; bark grey, rarely powdery; leaves opposite or subopposite; petiole 5–30 mm long; lamina leathery or slightly fleshy, glaucous, 4–10 × 2–7.5 cm, elliptic-oblong, elliptic or ovate, bluntly pointed, narrowly to broadly cuneate and slightly decurrent at base; umbels 1–3 in axils and at older leafless nodes; peduncle (2)5–35 mm long, sometimes with few aborted buds below the umbel; pedicels 3–9(18), (2)3–5 mm long; bract cup 0.5–1 mm long, with a triangular or bifid limb 0.5–1.5 mm long; corolla red or pink at base, white or grey above, the apical swelling darkening in ripe buds, lobes green or whitish inside, 2.5–4.5 cm long; apical swelling 2.5–3 mm across, obovoid, ± truncate, pentagonal, slightly reduplicate; basal swelling (3)4–6 × (2.5)3.5–4 mm, ellipsoid; inner anther thecae 2–4 mm long; outer ones 0.5–2.5 mm long; stigma 1.2–1.5 mm across, peltate; berry glaucous and turning dull purple, 10–12 × 9–10 mm, obovoid-globose, slightly verruculose.
