Description of the genus

Annual or perennial herbs with indumentum of simple or ± asymmetric T-shaped hairs. Leaves opposite, alternate or opposite below and alternate above, simple. Capitula homogamous, discoid. Phyllaries unequal, increasing in size to the inside, numerous. Corolla purple or mauve. Achenes various. Pappus consisting of one series of a few caducous barbellate setae or 0.

Worldwide: 30 species occurring in tropical Africa.

Mozambique: 5 taxa.
