Description of the genus

Herbs, erect or climbing. Leaves pinnately 3-foliolate; stipules persistent. Inflorescences axillary false racemes. Calyx 5-lobed, 2-lipped. Bracteoles shorter than calyx tube. Corolla yellow, blue or reddish. Standard auriculate, without appendages. Style thick at the base, thin in the middle then flattened and enlarged near the apex. Pods linear, flattened. Seeds without an aril.

Worldwide: 7-8 species in tropical and southern Africa

Mozambique: 4 taxa.
