Description:
Plants arborescent, up to 2-3 m tall. Leaves borne in a dense rosette at the apex of the stem, lanceolate, long-attenuate, recurved; margin hooked teeth. Inflorescence 1-3-branched. Peduncle oblique, strongly decurved. Raceme extremely dense-flowered, cylindric, strongly curved downwards with numerous sterile bracts at the apex. Perianth usually red, less often orange; mouth constricted. Filaments exserted to 15 mm. Seeds blackish-brown, flat, with a narrow wing.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: ribauensis: named for Mount Ribaue in Mozambique where the type was collected.
Habitat: On cliff faces or on exposed slips on granite in forest areas.
Altitude range: 700 - 1500 m

Worldwide distribution: Confined to northern Mozambique.
